Madison, WI. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 –
At approximately 12:46 a.m. Dane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with McFarland Police, Fire, EMS, and Stoughton EMS responded to US Highway 51 approximately one tenth mile north of Dyreson Rd., in the Town of Dunn, for a two vehicle injury crash.
The preliminary investigation indicated a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Toby D. Ellestad, 21 of McFarland, had been northbound on US Highway 51, crossed the center line striking a 2011 Toyota Prius driven by Wendy L. Read, 48 of Stoughton. Both were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
Ellestad was arrested for Causing Injury by Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He was also issued citations for Operating Left of Center, Open Intoxicants, and No Insurance. Ellestad was admitted to the UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Read was also admitted to the UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles. Both drivers had their seatbelts on.
This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
